Big names, bigger fun: Fall Arts Preview
August 2024
San Francisco Opera presents four bangers this fall: a revival of their haunting de Chirico-inspired “Rigoletto” production; a star-studded 25th anniversary production of Jake Heggie’s “Dead Man Walking,” perhaps the most successful new American opera of the century; the return of Wagner’s last, and weirdest, opera, “Parsifal,” after a lapse of a quarter century; and what promises to be a spectacular new opera, composer Huang Ruo and librettist David Henry Hwang’s “The Monkey King,” with puppetry and set designs by Basil Twist. Catch them all at the War Memorial Opera House from Sept. 25-Nov. 30.
